Nick Rey fundraiser a success

An auction was held last week to raise funds to buy a beach wheelchair for former polo player Nick Rey.

Family and friends of former polo player Nick Rey packed the Litchi Orchard in Salt Rock on Thursday night.

An event was held to raise funds to buy a beach wheelchair for Rey (49) who was left brain damaged after his horse fell on him during a polo tournament in 2004.

An auction by Pumpy Lambert kicked the night off, during which a microlight flight, tiger fishing trip to Pongola and Hugo Boss sunglasses were up for grabs, among other amazing items.

Guest speaker Patricia Glyn, famous for her walk from Durban to Victoria Falls in 2005, shared her fascinating story.

One of the event organisers Louise Kelly thanked everyone who attended.

“The most important thing is that we made enough to cover the cost of the beach wheelchair so Nick can go to the beach with his family. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you!”
