What started as a meeting of a handful of friends has become a weekly staple for a large group of Christian men on the North Coast.
With no official name for the group, the gathering gives men of all denominations a place to come and share in fellowship, and worship the Lord Jesus Christ.
The group comes together every week at Gianni’s restaurant at 6.30am and members enjoy a cup of coffee and a light breakfast snack before getting down to business.
The meeting which grew organically from coffee dates back to 2007 where the men shared, encouraged and prayed for one another at the Waterberry. After the coffee shop burned down, the meeting moved to Gianni’s.
“It was not as if we said ‘let’s start a mens’ group,” explained Keith Duane.
“It was really something from the Lord.”
The small group quickly grew by word of mouth and a bond of fellowship was formed as Ballito’s men came together to meet, share testimonies and join in collective prayer.
Alongside Duane are Rob Jobling, Darin Owen and Claude Robert, who form part of an unofficial organisational team.
There is no invitation to the group, it is open to anybody.
“We have had people coming from all over the country to visit,” said Robert.
“Anybody is invited and it is completely voluntary,” he said.
The Courier attended a recent meeting where Geoff Cohen, an orthodox Jew who has welcomed the Lord Jesus Christ into his life, shared his testimony.
Over 60 men listened with open hearts. This kind of acceptance permeates the atmosphere and the sense of belonging is tangible.
