Matric pupil up-ended
An accident outside Santorini on Ocean Drive left a car lying on its roof on Wednesday afternoon.
Shortly after finishing his final matric exam, an Ashton pupil’s excitement got away with him, landing him and his vehicle flat on their backs on Ocean Drive
The youth collided with another car after turning into the entrance to Santorini.
The Courier arrived minutes after the accident to find Sevaughn Herbst sitting on the pavement looking at his upside down car. Briony Whitehead, who had been driving the other vehicle, was just metres away making a phone call.
Melissa Bechard, a Ballito resident who stopped to help, said she noticed Whitehead had stopped and was seemingly frozen.
“I got out my car and went to her first, she looked very shaken-up,” said Bechard.
Herbst explained what had happened as he was driving home from school.
Immediately after his car had over-turned, Herbst crawled out of his car and went to check on Whitehead.
Emergency services arrived on the scene soon after the incident. Netcare, KwaDukuza Traffic officers and Umhlali SAPS were all present.
Luckily, neither Whitehead or Herbst were injured.
