No mosque just yet

Plans are still at an early stage.

Despite rumours to the contrary, there are no immediate plans to build a mosque in Ballito.
A post on the ‘I Love Ballito’ FaceBook page sparked conversation on the issue but ward councillor Colin Marsh said council has no concrete plans. There is, however, a local group lobbying for land with plans to build a mosque once council grants permission.
Democratic Alliance PR councillor Ebrahim Kolia was approached by the Muslim community and is working with the group. He said plans are still at an early stage and no formal item has been submitted to council for consideration.
“We have started with an application in this regard but there is no item for discussion at council yet. We have not received any joy thus far regarding land acquisition but we hope to get the ball rolling soon.”
Kolia highlighted a need for a mosque in Ballito.
“The nearest mosque is in Stanger and it would be helpful to have one that is closer.”
