Only three days after two Ballito SuperSpar employees died and 16 were seriously injured when their taxi was hit by a train, another taxi/train accident occurred last night.
Miraculously only four people, who were travelling in a taxi, suffered minor injuries after a train collided into the vehicle while it was crossing the railway line yesterday evening in Umgabaga in Durban.
At around 7.20pm paramedics received urgent calls about the taxi which had been struck at the Illfracombe Railway crossing on the R102. The taxi had been pushed right off the tracks, and the impact appeared to have only been to the very rear of the taxi.
Only those seated at the rear of the taxi were injured. They were treated for minor injuries and taken to hospitals in the area for further assessment. The remaining occupants of the taxi were not injured and left the scene privately.
Also yesterday there was an accident on the R74 near Maphumulo in the Stanger area around 4.30pm.
The two vehicles involved had overturned, injuring four passengers.
The injured were treated on scene before they were transported to hospital for further medical care.
