A wise man once said “ice cream is happiness condensed”.
Bubbly chef Chloe Malherbe has taken these words to heart and she is on a mission to condense every drop of happiness in the world into bursts of flavour.
Chloe is a magician. She takes free-range, natural ingredients from the North Coast and turns them into bowls of happiness.
“I qualified as a chef in Pretoria and when I moved back home, I worked in hotels. I quickly discovered it was not for me and wanted to do my own thing.”
Stemming from her love for old-school ice cream parlours and drive-ins, Chloe raided a few recipe books and came up with a LegenDairy idea – home-made ice cream.
Since then LegenDairy Ice Cream has become a favourite among locals. Sinful flavours include milktart, orange brandy and honey, salted macadamia and turkish delight, lime and coconut, red velvet and even carrot cake.
“I also do the traditional flavours like peanut butter, vanilla, chocolate, lemon curd and berries, when they are in season. It is a blast coming up with all the different flavours that people love.”
Chloe has a regular spot at The Litchi Orchard’s fortnightly market and has big plans for LegenDairy.
“The ice-cream is popular but I want to take it further with milkshakes and other dairy goodies. Who knows? I might even open up an old-school ice cream parlour!”
