Lighting up Ballito
Zimbali Rotary are selling fresh cut Christmas trees outside the Ballito Food Lovers Market.
Christmas cheer shone brightly in Ballito on Saturday with Zimbali Rotary’s Light up Ballito project at Mica on Saturday, December 7.
Light up Ballito is one of the Rotary’s initiatives to raise funds for the Ballito Cancer Support Network. The network’s Jaimie Ernst and Miss Ballito Shelley Buckle switched on the lights of the Christmas tree that is currently housed at BBS Mica.
The public can support this fundraiser by buying a star from Mica for R20 and hanging it on the tree in honor of loved ones who have passed away. Proceeds will be used to buy a portable oxygen machine for cancer patients.
Saturday’s events took an emotional turn when a candle was lit in honor of the late president of the republic, Nelson Mandela.
“We must continue being lights in each other’s lives as Tata Madiba was in ours. Let us remember his teachings and try and emulate it in our own lives,” said Ernst.
The Rotary’s Saturday Club children lead the crowd in a national anthem followed by some well known Christmas carols.
Zimbali Rotary is also selling fresh cut Christmas trees outside the Food Lovers Market, adjacent to the Shell garage from 9am to 5.30pm on weekdays and 8.30am to 3pm on weekends. The sale runs until December 21 and trees cost between R130 and R300. Funds raised will go towards various charitable projects.
