The Ballito Lions hosted their annual pensioners Christmas lunch last Sunday at Townsend Park for 120 senior citizens from Ballito, Westbrook and Nkobongo.
The event, which has been well received by pensioners for the last 20 years, was enjoyed just as much this year.
The Ballito Lions made the event possible with fund raising during the year, which paid for food, cooked by the Lions, as well as transport and refreshments.
Fifteen mentally and physically challenged people from Tongaat were also invited to attend, which they did amid great excitement.
Lions president Paul Naidoo made a speech in honour of former president Nelson Mandela to those gathered in the hall, and two tables of women from Nkobongo rose and sung “lala kahle Madiba” in solemn and beautiful tones.
The food went down well and a great time was had by all.
