Children understand and behold the wonder of Christmas more easily than their parents.
So it is fitting that at 4pm on Christmas Eve All Souls Anglican church is holding a special Christingle Service.
A Christingle service is aimed specifically at children, with both the service and the theme designed to delight and enthral the young ones.
The Christingle tradition dates back to the 1770’s in the Moravian Church when one of the Bishops wanted to explain the real meaning of Christmas to children.
This has developed into the Christingle we know today with the orange representing the world that God made; the red ribbon is Jesus’ blood shed on the cross for us; the four sticks illustrates the four seasons of the year and the creation; the fruit reminds us that God provides food for us and the lighted candle representing Jesus Christ the Light that shines in our world today.
Traditionally the beneficiary of the collection taken is for children and so this will go to the North Coast Courier Orphan Fund.
Bring your children to a child focussed event where they will be entertained and learn more about the meaning of Christmas and at the same time have an opportunity to contribute to orphaned and vulnerable children
