Second drowning victim found

Family positively identifies second victim of Tugela River double drowning.

The body of the second boy who drowned in the Tugela River near New Ark has been found.

Nhlanhlakayise Ntuli and Senzo Gumede, aged 11 and 14, disappeared while swimming across the river with friends, instead of using the boat further upstream, on Wednesday, January 8.

Volunteer David Brown and anxious community members joined the Ballito Specialised Rescue Unit, SAPS air wing, divers and K9 unit and the KwaDukuza fire and emergency services to search for the boys.

One of the boys’ crocodile-damaged bodies was found yesterday, seven kilometres from where the boys disappeared.

The second body was found about 40 kilometres from the drowning scene, also with signs of crocodile bites.

Family members at the scene have positively identified the body.
