Drunk drivers not tolerated

More than 260 drunk drivers arrested.

More than 260 drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol since mid-November, according to statistics form the KwaDukuza community safety department.

In a press release KwaDukuza Mayor, Ricardo Mthembu, said he welcomed the arrests, while noting the figure with concern, saying such figures are a damning indication and show irresponsibility on government roads.
“I hope these statistics make an indelible impression on the people of KwaDukuza. Those who continue to undermine the law will be cut down to size as nobody is above the justice system.”
Mthembu maintained that the battle against crime and road carnages should be everybody’s business.
“The death of one person on our roads is one too many, it cannot be tolerated.”
He has however said the department, working together with other law enforcement agencies, has through a sustained presence managed to maintain order on the roads as the festive season draws to an end.
