Wave takes fisherman at Blythdale

A man was washed off the rocks while fishing early this morning.

A fisherman was washed off the rocks at Blythdale early this morning and has not been seen since.

Reports indicate that the 45-year-old man had caught a fish and while attempting to reel it in his line had become caught on the rocks.

People on the beach witnessed the fisherman walk down into a channel in the rocks in an attempt to free his line, when a wave washed over him and he was not seen again.

KwaDukuza life guards, the Specialized Rescue Unit and Rapid Care were among those who searched tirelessly for the man.

“The Salt Rock life guards were the first on scene and they put in an incredible effort searching for this man,” said Paul Herbst of Ballito’s Rapid Care.

The rescue teams searched the area all the way passed Princess Grant with no sign of the missing man.

He is now presumed to have drowned and the search has been called off until first light tomorrow,

However his distraught family is still on the rocks, continuing the vigil.
