Drowning victim’s body recovered

A fisherman spotted the body of the teenager who drowned at Tinley Manor.

The body of the teenager who drowned off Tinley Manor yesterday afternoon, has been found.

He was spotted by a fisherman just 500m from where he had been swimming.

KwaDukuza life guards retrieved the body from the water.

The 17-year-old boy was from Groutville and had matriculated last year.

He was swimming with three friends when he was caught in a rip current near the tidal pool around 1.45pm yesterday.

Rough seas hampered the search yesterday and rescue teams had continued their efforts from 5am this morning.

The KwaDukuza fire and emergency services scoured the shoreline between Zinkwazi and the Tongaat river mouth with the help of Rapid Care and volunteers, while KwaDukuza lifeguards, the Dolphin Coast water patrol and Specialised Rescue searched the water on boats and jet skis.

This is the third drowning on the Dolphin Coast this week and the only body retrieved so far.

Specialised Rescue’s Quinton Power said he was thankful that at least this family would be able to find closure.
