Fisherman hooks body at Blythedale

A body was sighted 500m off the main beach.

The body of the fisherman who disappeared off the rocks at Blythedale Beach last Sunday is thought to have been sighted by a fisherman early this morning

According to Rapid Care’s Paul Herbst the fisherman was on a jet-ski about 500m out to sea when he hooked the remains of a person floating near him.

“The fisherman tied the body to his buoy and came to shore to call for help. The body has since floated away and we, along with KwaDukuza lifeguards and SAPS search and rescue are now searching for it,” said Herbst.

The missing man had spent the night at the beach fishing with three of his friends. He was last seen trying to unhook his line from the rocks when a wave is believed to have washed him out to sea.

This was the first off three drownings on the Dolphin Coast this week.

Last Monday a 28-year-old Shakashead man drowned at Salmon Bay, Ballito. His body has not been found.

On Thursday a 17-year-old boy from Groutville drowned at Tinley Manor and his body was recovered on Friday.

Rescue and emergency services have, with the assistance of private microlight pilots; been searching the coastline all week in a tireless effort to bring closure to the grief stricken families.
