World’s largest plane is training above Ballito
Aviation enthusiasts should look out for the giant aircraft as it graces our skies.
The largest passenger plane in the world, the Airbus A380, landed at Durban’s King Shaka International Airport for the first time today.
The British Airways (BA) aircraft is at King Shaka for crew training until 4 February, and has been seen flying over Ballito all afternoon.
The largest passenger plane the airport has handled was an Airbus A340, just before the airport opened in May 2010.
Five people from around the world could get a chance to fly to Durban to race the A380 on the runway before it takes off.
The “man versus plane” idea follows a similar stunt last year in which Springbok wing Bryan Habana sprinted against, and beat, a BA A380, creating a hit on YouTube.
The challenge is still being finalised and is scheduled for February.
