No bail for Desperado

The man wanted for numerous armed robberies, murder and forcing other men to rape his victims remains behind bars, for now.

The man believed to have been terrorising, raping and murdering people around KwaDukuza did not ask for bail when he appeared in Umhlali Periodical Court yesterday.

The man, known only as ‘Desperado’, was arrested by the KwaDukuza SAPS family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit (FCS) in connection with a rape in Umlazi, Durban on Tuesday afternoon.

FCS KwaDukuza’s warrant officer Vusi Blose said ‘Desperado’ is suspected of a spate of armed robberies, rapes, compelled rape (the act of forcing someone to rape) and murder.

“He is also facing a murder charge, among other crimes, that he allegedly committed in Harding. We have just received information that Port Shepstone SAPS is also looking for him for another rape and murder charge. He might end up facing more charges if other cases come foward,” said Blose.

A group of residents from Velani Township in Etete braved the rain to applaud the police on a job well done yesterday morning. They gathered outside the police station ahead Desperado’s court appearance.

We just want to congratulate the team that caught Desperado especially warrant office Blose who has been on his tail for a long time. We hope the magistrate will do the right thing and put him behind bars along with his co-accused,” said Njabulo Mbonambi, Velani ward councilor.

Desperado next court appearance will be next Thursday on February 6.
