‘Accident unavoidable’ says driver
Injured woman speaks out from her hospital bed via Facebook.
The woman who was injured in yesterday’s accident on the R102 between Shakashead and Umhlali contacted the Courier via our Facebook page to share her version of events.
Yesterday afternoon the Courier reported that two people had been injured after a broken-down vehicle was hit by another car, injuring both drivers, a man and a woman.
The stationary vehicle had been transporting a type of acid, which spilled onto the road.
“The car with the acid in it was being pushed from one side of the road to the other with no triangles, no driver to steer the vehicle, and this on a blind rise,” wrote Liezel Bauermeister from her hospital bed.
The Ballito resident said she could not avoid the vehicle due to oncoming traffic from the other direction.
During the accident the acid splashed the man believed to be the owner of this vehicle, injuring him severely.
“The owner fled to try go wash the acid off that was flung out of his vehicle. I am in hospital and in severe pain. But thank God my children were not in the car with me.”
