Poser arrested after Ballito gym robbery
Rachel Rudman is still shaken after two men and a woman attacked her and robbed the gym.
Umhlali police have arrested one man and recovered a laptop believed to be linked to the robbery at Curves Ballito last Friday.
Curves Ballito employee, Rachel Rudman is still shaken after two men and a woman attacked her and robbed the gym.
Rudman, who works as the circuit coach, said she was approached by two men and a woman posing as potential clients last Friday afternoon.
“After they left I went to the back of the gym to prepare my lunch and that is when I heard noises in the front and came back quickly,” said Rudman.
She said the two men were standing next their front desk and when she asked them if they had forgotten something they told her they wanted “a number”.
“I told them I had given the Curves number to the lady but they kept on insisting they wanted a number. That is when I told them I would not give them my personal number,” said Rudman
One of them allegedly came behind her and grabbed her arm roughly, pushed her to the ground, then got on top of her.
“I screamed and kicked and luckily I had a fork on my hand, which I had been using while preparing my lunch, so I used it to stab him while trying to make enough noise to attracted the attention of other people in the building,” said Rudman.
Apparently a cleaner heard her screams and when the alleged attackers saw her they got off Rudman and ran out of the gym. Other tenants also heard the commotion but by the time they arrived the men were already getting into their car and speeding off.
“After we phoned the police, we discovered they had stolen a laptop that was on our front desk. I am just grateful that one of the tenants was able to get their registration plate,” said Rudman.
Owner of Ballito Curves Anthea Wilkins said although the incident had shaken all of her team, her clients had nothing to worry about because this was the first time something like this happened to them and they were doing everything in their power to make sure there will be no repeats in future.
Rudman echoed Wilkins’ statement and said she believed her attackers were amateurs who were taking chances because she was alone.
