The young man (22) who disappeared while swimming with his father last Tuesday afternoon at Umdloti Beach is still missing.
The pair got caught in strong current and lifeguards were only able to rescue the father. He was stabilised by paramedics who then took him to Umhlanga Hospital.
Rapid Care paramedic, Paul Herbst said the 50-year-old man from Amanzimtoti had since been released from hopsital but the lifeguards, Ballito specialised rescue unit, paramedics and the police were still searching for his son.
This is the fifth in a string of drownings reported this year, with previous drownings off Blythedale Beach, Tinley Manor, Salmon Bay and Salt Rock.
