Botched car theft at Salmon Bay

Would-be car thieves were scared off today when they were spotted.

Two men tried to steal a blue Toyota Yaris at Salmon bay beach just at around 11.30 am this morning.

They were noticed by the Boat House’s housekeeping staff, who saw what was happening and called the receptionist, who shouted at the men.

Keane Roberts, who helps out at the Boat House, said he ran outside, but the men had gotten back into their car and were making their escape.

“They were wearing gloves and one of them was trying to cover his face with a towel,” he said.

According to Roberts, there was no evidence that the men had been carrying weapons.
