Three men accused of murdering a North Coast taxi owner and his wife on February 23 were arrested last Thursday.
Members of the national intervention unit (NIU) arrested the men, aged between 29 and 29, in connection with the shooting of Paulos Mashaya (60) and his wife Gertrude (54).
“Gertrude was in her house at Ezakheni area, Sundumbili when she was shot and her house set alight. She died instantly. Her husband, who was not at home at the time, went to investigate after he heard that his wife had been killed. On his way home, he too was shot and killed by unknown suspects,” said KZN SAPS colonel Jay Naicker.
Naicker said the men were arrested with an AK47 rifle, pistol and LM6 rifle, which were seized by officers.
Two cases of murder and arson were opened at Sundumbili SAPS in conjunction with the provincial taxi task team.
The men appeared in the Nyoni Magistrate’s Court on Friday and were remanded.
