Mandeni born DJ Cndo, whose real name is Sindisiwe Zungu will be headlining this year’s Tugela Raft Race parties on March 28 and 29 at the Mandeni Country Club.
Multi-award winning Cndo, who is also known as the first lady of house music, won a Metro FM award for best female artist of the year in Durban on Saturday.
Her latest single Yamnandi Into is currently receiving ample radio play around the country and she is coming home to celebrate her Metro FM award with her fans at the end of the month.
Mandeni communications officer, Mduduzi Manzi said this year’s raft race promises to become the three day hottest party and incorporates the full range of outdoor, adventure and river activities that Mandeni has to offer.
“We have something for non-rafters too. Starting on Thursday where we will be presenting a mayoral award to the University of KZN mechanical engineering department for the raft they built for the 2011 race. It is the best we have ever seen in the Tugela Raft Race and we want to commend their great work,” said Manzi.
The pre-party will be held at the Mandeni Country Club on Friday from 6pm with Cndo and deejays Nono and Eish setting the pace.
A picnic will also be held at the club after the race on Saturday from 12pm and Manzi said they are expecting families to come and enjoy an afternoon of good music and laughter with them.
“From 6pm we will start an after-party with great performances from local artists and a surprise guest until early hours of the morning,” said Manzi.
The parties and the picnic are free but for the race rafters will have to pay R850 per raft with two to 12 crew members per raft and those who are not into rafting can ride a tube for R150 per tube.
