Call for volunteers to paint needy schools
RedCap Foundation are looking for volunteers to help renovate drama and art classrooms next week.
The RedCap Foundation is calling for volunteers to help renovate drama and art classrooms at two schools in the KwaDukuza area next week.
Nyakana and St Christophers primary schools Art classrooms will get a make-over on Monday, March 10, but not without your help.
“We will be repainting the classroom, doing a mural, putting in shelving, covering tins for crayons and generally making the class look more ‘art friendly’. We urgently need more volunteers to assist,” said Red Cap’s Fundraising manager Cathy Kinnear.
For the past two years, the Mr Price apparel team has collaborated with international designer Henry Holland to raise funds for the RedCap Foundation.
Holland asked for funds to be put towards improving Drama and Art classrooms in the area. For the last year and a half, one Saturday a month Mr Price associates have been volunteering at five needy schools to help introduce arts, drama and culture programmes. Zilungisele primary school has already been fixed up, while Kearsney and Aldinville primary schools are set for renovations on March 17.
This year, there are two full time teaching support assistants sponsored by the RedCap Foundation who have been helping at the schools during the week so that Saturdays are free for the students.
The idea is to incorporate what is learnt on Saturdays into classes during the week. The lessons are also in line with the Basic Education department’s syllabus.
