Créche children to benefit from early development
Ilembe Chamber and Ballito Street Heroes give back.
After being identified as a benefactor of the September 2013 Ballito street heroes event, Ithemba Labasha crèche was officially donated R37 000 last Friday.
The Soul Sisters, the organisation which has supported the crèche for the past three years, with help in the last six months from Jarryd Pillay and his family as well as Leitch Landscapes, have been instrumental in helping crèche head, Doreen Yengwa to keep going in the interim.
Now, with the R37 000 that was raised at the Street Heroes event, the Ilembe Chamber of Commerce and Training and Resources in Early Education (TREE) will move to place Ithemba Labasha on the TREE project management list immediately.
“It was important to us that the créche was given these funds in a monitored and sustainable framework,” said Ballito Street Heroes organiser Ed Hill.
Ithemba Labasha is one of 21 crèches TREE and the Ilembe Chamber of Commerce have identified in the Ballito region that require sustainable and effective infrastructure and the partnership is in the process of finding sponsors to adopt each of these créches to enable the proper training and operational infrastructure to be implemented.
TREE is a non-profit organisation specialising in early childhood development and resources and training. The organisation effectively exists to assist adults from small disadvantaged communities to provide local
children with access to these development programs.
The goal is for Ithemba Labasha to be run sustainably by members of the community for children from the community.
