Tongaat SAPS have been out of full force in their efforts to stomp down the high levels of robberies that have been recently reported in the area.
Tongaat SAPS spokesperson, Lieutenant Mandy Governder said they wanted to send a strong message to criminals who “may have fooled themselves into thinking Tongaat was their playground.”
She said the past week’s raids were very successful and Tongaat residents played a huge role in alerting the police on some suspected activities in their areas.
The vispol support unit has also been working on their days off with the reservists. Their patrols led to the arrest of three men who were seen jumping over a fence in Seatides last Wednesday.
“We found them in possession of a hammer, crowbar and screwdriver and we suspect they wanted to break into the house,” said Governder.
On Friday they arrested four men who are suspected to be part of a robbery syndicate operating in the North Coast.
“My colleagues responded to a report of card and cash theft at the ABSA ATM in the CBD in the early hours of the morning . The men were found in possession of bank cards and cash belonging to a female victim who reported the robbery,” said Govender.
The quartet has already been linked to two other robberies and the car they were travelling has been linked to a house break-in in Pheonix.
“We have sent information to other police station to check if they have not committed crimes in other areas,” said Govender.
The police have requested people with more information on these cases to come forward. Contact Tongaat SAPS on 032-9449901.
