“She was my soul mate…”

Ballito resident Jessica Nicholson has lost her fight with cancer.
Jessica passed away on Saturday morning after battling brain cancer for a year. She died just days after a Fish for Hope event at Rain Farm raised R27 000 towards her treatment. Her husband Simon said Jessica had been brave and determined since her diagnosis in February last year, following a massive seizure.
Brain surgery, radiation and chemotherapy gave Jessica a clear scan at the beginning of October last year, but the cancer returned stronger in December.
“She had been her usual self up until then and it was difficult to watch her withdraw in those last two months. Even so, Jess never behaved like a victim and fought to stay positive. I never saw her cry and feel sorry for herself.”
The couple made beautiful memories in the last year of Jessica’s life, taking mini-holidays and making sure they seized every opportunity to have fun.
“Not many people get to say goodbye like that and I am so grateful I made those memories with Jessica.”
Simon said he would miss the woman he called his soul mate.
“A love like Jessica only comes around once in a lifetime. She was the only person who really knew and understood me and who could tell what I was thinking with one look. I will miss her but I plan to keep my focus on the memories I made withher.”
