Grammy Award-winning saxophonist Kirk Whalum undertook a whirlwind tour through Ilembe this week.
Whalum is best known for his solo on the Whitney Houston classic I Will Always Love You and his work with legendary jazz pianist and vocalist George Duke and jazz heavyweight Paul Jackson Jnr.
He was in town to promote the Awesome Ilembe Arts Festival, launched at the King Shaka International Airport on Wednesday.

The festival is organised by the Ilembe District Municipality and the provincial arts and culture department.
Whalum enthralled fans at the Sibusisiwe Hall in Mandeni last night, performing a selection of his classics from his The Gospel According to Jazz anthology.

He also visited the King Shaka Visitor’s Centre in Stanger and the Luthuli Museum in Groutville.
