Zola Budd comes to Sugar Rush

World-renowned runner to present clinic in Ballito.

Sugar Rush will host world-renowned South African runner Zola Budd Pieterse for a free natural running clinic on Thursday, April 10 at 10am.

Pieterse gained recognition as the 17-year-old South African who ran in the 1984 Olympics. She is also a two-time world record holder in the women’s 5km.

For years, Pieterse has been living in the Myrtle Beach area in the United States of America, where she is a regular on the Grand Strand race scene and is a volunteer coach for Coastal Carolina University.

She rarely ventures to the Charleston area (USA) to race but chose to run Charleston in January in preparation for her return to the Two Oceans Marathon in early April.

She not only won the fourth annual Charleston Marathon but the 47-year-old smashed the state age-group record for females, age 45 – 49, with her time of 2 hrs 59min 42sec.
