The Democratic Alliance’s top youth leaders visited the North Coast on Saturday night.
National youth leader Mbali Ntuli, national youth chair Yusuf Cassim and deputy federal chairperson Magashula Gana joined members of parliament John Steenhuisen and Sandy Kalyan in addressing a packed Salt Rock Hotel, where youth from Groutville, Shakaskraal, Ballito, Stanger and Salt Rock gathered. The youth raised several pertinent issues, including employment equity, education at a tertiary level and the treatment of minority groups.
Gana and Ntuli addressed the passion of young people especially those who are about to cast their very first votes.
DA Ilembe constituency chairperson Madhun Sing said senior party members engaged with the youth.
“We need increased funding for tertiary education. No-one should be denied education because they cannot afford it. We must work with businesses to take on more apprenticeship and internship to give training that leads to real jobs.”
Ward 22 councillor Ann McDonnell said the event was a great success.
“It was pleasing to see so many young people turning out and asking questions that were relevant and well thought-out,” she said.
