Internal politics disrupts teaching at Shakaskraal Primary

An ongoing dispute between school staff led to the school's closure.

Class was officially out of the question today at Shakaskraal Primary school after parents locked the school gates, demanding a dispute between staff be sorted out.

During a parent teacher meeting last night over 250 parents expressed their dismay at an ongoing dispute between a teacher and other staff at the school.

The issue has been festering for the past few years, disrupting classes on numerous occasions since 2009.

Officials from the Education department and South African Democratic Teachers Union hurried to the school early this morning to mediate a solution. The parents were demanding that the ongoing dispute be sorted out once and for all.

During a lengthy meeting with the school’s governing body, SADTU and Education Department officials agreed that the most appropriate solution to the problem would be the relocation of the teacher in question to another school. However, the final decision has yet to be announced. Attempts to reach SADTU Regional Secretary, Mthokozisi Mpunzana, for comment were unsuccessful.

The teacher in question had assaulted the principal, Vinesh Singh last year and pleaded guilty to the charge.
