Two arrested for taxi shooting

KwaDukuza's taxi rank is under police guard once again after another spate of taxi violence.

The KwaDukuza taxi rank is under armed police guard yet again.
Police officers were deployed to the rank after another shooting between security guards from rival taxi associations on Sunday night, the third in two weeks.
KwaZulu-Natal SAPS media liaison colonel Jay Naicker said two men were arrested in connection with the shooting.
“The victims were returning from a funeral and were travelling on Balcomb Street near the KwaDukuza taxi rank when two unknown suspects opened fire on them. All three victims sustained gunshot wounds, they were taken to hospital where they received medical treatment.”
The KwaDukuza and Maphumulo taxi associations are fighting for control of the Darnall route.
Transport MEC Willies Mchunu was forced to intervene when KwaMaphumulo taxi association member Mape Ngcobo was killed and two others seriously injured in separate shootings at the rank (Taxi violence claims life, Courier, April 18).
