The protest over Darnall’s taxis that closed the R102 yesterday is on hold while the Ilembe municipality mayor Welcome Mdabe meets with the community to resolve the issue.
Residents of Zamani Township, near Darnall closed the road yesterday between Stanger and Empangeni using tree branches, pipes and burning tyres.
Ward two councillor Ntsiki Pakkies said the protesters claimed that the security guards regularly forced them off buses, insisting that they use taxis instead.
KwaDukuza taxi association chairperson Bongizwe Mhlongo said they were not aware of the community’s complaints.
“If anyone has a complaint they are free to come and let us know and that matter will be resolved. If a security guard abuses you in any way you should open a case and none of the Darnall resident have done that!” said Mhlongo.
