Following in Mom’s footsteps
Three Ashton girls raised money to help disadvantaged creches.
Three Ashton pupils took the initiative to help raise funds for crèches in the area at Zimbali’s annual Easter flea market on Easter Saturday.
Tatum and Courtney Toweel and Emma-Jae Dunn followed in the footsteps of Emma-Jae’s mother Louane, who assists at a number of crèches through the Ilembe Chamber Woman in Business Forum.
The girls set up their own stall and sold various goodies to raise funds for the chamber, which is in partnership with TREE Early Childhood Development Project (ECDP).
The girls donated R775 to buy stationery packs, colouring books and balls.
“This is a wonderful story of how our community is involved in upliftment and supporting those in need even from a young age. These kids have just been amazing,” said Ilembe Chamber’s Renalda Hoffmann.
The Woman in Business Forum is asking for organisations to support early childhood development in the district.
“TREE and the chamber urges you to prioritise early childhood development and invest in the future of our young children. Should you have any donations in terms of cots, blankets, mattresses, outdoor equipment, books, stationery, educational toys or puzzles we would greatly appreciate these. They will be used for children under five years old,” said Hoffmann.
