Slithering to their new home

African Rock Pythons released into new home.

Small antelope and little critters will have to watch their step in the Rain Farm game reserve from now on.

Seven baby African Rock Pythons were released at the reserve last Thursday, but it will be a few years before they are big enough to swallow large prey.

A large male measuring in at 3.4 metres was also released.

The baby snakes were found outside a Ballito estate, while the big male was found in a chicken coop near Glendale by KZN Ezemvelo wildlife officials.

After the male was caught he was taken to the Ndlondlo reptile park by KZN Ezemvelo wildlife officials.

Rain Farm is the perfect home for these snakes, with 300 hectares of space to roam.

The Courier’s resident snake catcher David Hoehler and local snake expert Neville Wolmarans had the honour of releasing this protected snake species into their new home.
