A local mother has asked herself this question repeatedly after her 19-year-old son was brutally attacked outside his school on Tuesday, May 20.
Paramedics found Thembela Chili on the side of the road at Shakaskraal Secondary School, bleeding from stab wounds to his neck.
Domestic worker Lucia Mlondo said she cannot think of anything that may have provoked the attack.
“I just heard that three boys attacked him but I do not know why, or how. I do not understand why this happened and it hurts me.”
Thembela was treated at a local hospital and later discharged.
Mlondo is looking after him at home.
“He is doing alright under the circumstances. He had trouble breathing over the weekend and I took him back to hospital.”
Shakaskraal Secondary did not want to comment, but the Courier is aware that Mlondo was called to the school for a meeting.
There was no response from the Umhlali SAPS at the time of going to press.
