All in a day’s work for Umhlali policewoman

Coast Guard Security award an Umhlali SAPS officer for going beyond the line of duty.

Coast Guard Security have honoured an Umhlali SAPS warrant officer after she helped them track down a thief in Shakashead.

With the help of warrant officer Shaleen Ramlakan, Coast Guard Security was able to arrest a man who was suspected of stealing an iPad from a business in Shakaskraal.

Two weeks ago one of Coast Guard security’s clients’ offices was robbed while the owner was away. An iPad that was stolen was found by an informant who notified Coast Guard’s general manager Sheldon Varden.

“Our informant told us these guys were selling the stolen property in Shakashead,” said Varden.

He went to Umhlali SAPS and was assisted by Ramlakan.

“We headed to the area, found the suspects and interrogated them. We then went to a house nearby and recovered the item,” said Ramlakan.

Last Thursday Varden presented the warrant officer with a certificate of appreciation from Coast Guard Security.

“We have an excellent working relationship with Umhlali SAPS. They really go out of their way to help us. Ramlakan is an exceptional officer. She sets an example for others to follow,” said Varden.

“I am always willing to help out and the safety of the community is my passion,” said Ramlakan.

“I am really grateful for the award. It is all in a hard day’s work,” she added.
