Ballito man hijacked and taken for a ride
Hijacked at the Shell garage yesterday.
A Ballito man had a harrowing experience after he was hijacked yesterday afternoon.
An employee of Talisman Plant Hire, who wished not to be named, was attacked at the Shell garage in Ballito while he was drawing cash from an ATM.
According to Talisman Plant Hire’s Brett Moran, the attackers stole his employee’s money and bank card before trying to run away. The man chased after them and was wrestled to the ground.
The hijackers stole his keys and got into his bakkie but the employee was able to get inside the passenger side of the car.
He was driven all the way to Westbrook when he managed to grab the steering wheel and crash his car into the hijackers getaway car at the Westbrook circle.
Head of Umhlali SAPS K9 unit, captain Snothi Dlamini, confirmed that some members of the K9 unit were called to search for the criminals, who ran into the nearby bush after the accident.
Dlamini was unable to confirm whether anyone had been arrested.
