One dead, one injured in R102 accident

Vehicle veers off road near King Shaka Airport

A driver lost control of his vehicle on the R102 around 4am this morning, killing himself and seriously injuring his passenger.

Netcare911’s Chris Botha said the Opel Corsa bakkie veered off the road as it was rounding a bend near the King Shaka International Airport, hitting a tree and then rolling down an embankment.

They were travelling from Verulam towards Tongaat.

“When we arrived we saw one of the men had sustained life-threatening injuries. After he was taken out of the car we worked for some time to resuscitate him, but he died on scene.”

The other patient was stabilised and taken to a nearby hospital, where he is recovering.
