Off duty policeman crashes into family at Umvoti

Blythdale family were on their way back from visiting their mother in hospital.

Three sisters on their way home from visiting their mother in hospital were injured when an off-duty policeman crashed into them on Friday night.

The Blythdale family were on their way back from Umhlanga hospital on the N2 before the Umvoti toll when a white bakkie allegedly driving into oncoming traffic in the wrong lane hit them head-on.

“The Richards Bay policeman was arrested at the accident,” said IPSS Medical Rescue paramedic Paul Herbst.

Herbst said the women’s brother had been driving in convoy with them and witnessed the accident.

“They were taken to Alberlito hospital,” said Herbst.
