A mother and her five-month-old daughter were traveling home from her work in Durban on Monday when a rock was dropped onto her car windscreen.
The brick or rock had hit the windscreen closer to the left side of the car where her baby was sitting in her car chair. Salt Rock’s Suzanne van der Merwe had been driving along the N2 roadway. She had passed the bridge near the airport and was approaching the toll plaza when she saw a man standing on the normally abandoned pedestrian bridge leaning over the balustrade. She thought nothing of if but as she came closer she watched as he dropped a rock or brick down towards her car. It hit and smashed the windscreen but did not break through completely.
“I did not panic, brake or swerve, I just slowed down and kept driving toward the toll and once I got there I phoned my husband,” said Van der Merwe.
