You may be forgiven for mistaking KwaDukuza’s lifeguards for pro surfers warming up for the upcoming Mr Price Pro.

Our local lifeguards are sporting some slick-looking new wetsuits that even Kelly Slater would be jealous of.

Thanks to Burn Industries, which produces wet suits, life jackets, baggies and other water sports apparel, KwaDukuza’s beach guardians can do their duties in comfort and style after they were sponsored nine wetsuits last week.

“The owner of Burn decided to sponsor our lifeguards after they helped out at the Night Ski Race last year. They were so professional and helpful, he wanted to give something back,” said local jetski legend Travis Beattie.

According to KwaDukuza lifeguard supervisor, Bongani Xulu, his team have had to go out to sea in cold conditions in nothing but their lifeguard t-shirts and baggies.

“We are really grateful for the sponsorship. It makes it even better that we did not have to ask or apply. The suits came just at the right time as winter is setting in,” said Xulu.

KwaDukuza beach manager Steve Honneysett believes the wetsuits add a professional edge.

“Now the public can recognise these guys when they are on the beaches or patrolling the water on jetskis,” said Honeysett.

“The lifeguards tell me the suits are really comfortable, they have swam in them already and the material is flexible,” he said.
