Firearm fraud foiled in KwaDukuza
21 arrests for forging firearm competency documents.
Twenty-one people have been arrested by KwaDukuza SAPS for using fraudulent firearm competency documents to apply for firearm licenses.
In a press release the police said 55 counts of fraud have been registered by detectives after the Provincial Commissioner’s office realised the documents were fake.
“The documents look authentic but detectives noticed that they all have the same serial number,” said police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane in the statement.
After an investigation, three firearms were seized that were obtained fraudulently.
Detectives are hoping to find out who was responsible for making the fake documents.
“Fraud will not be tolerated in this province and police will leave no stone unturned when investigating these cases. Those responsible will be brought to book,” said KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni.
KwaDukuza SAPS media liaison Constable Sibusiso Khumalo said more information would be released as the investigation continues.
“We will be charging people on a daily basis as the project continues,” said Khumalo.
