Do you know your neighbours? Would you be able to recognise people from your town if you met them in another city?
If you answered ‘no’ on both counts, then you need to head to the first ‘Picnic In the Park’ at Townsend Park on June 29.
The event is spearheaded by Ballito resident Isabel Austin, who recently created the ‘Meet My Neighbour Ballito’ FaceBook page to encourage interaction between Ballito residents.
“I wanted people to meet each other, those who do not gym or do pilates, or have children, or who do not visit pubs and clubs and struggle to make friends. This is what a community is all about.”
Austin said the picnic will be a kick start for residents to get to know each other.
“It is the opposite of what we usually do – stay in our corner with the people we know. The point is to put our blankets together and get out of our shells.”
Fourteen families have signed up so far and Austin hopes more will follow.
“Bring along your food, blankets and outdoor games and let us have some fun!”
