Karate South Africa honoured Ballito’s Mo-Zam-Bik restaurant owner Brett Michielin and his staff last week for their outstanding contribution to the sport.

The waitrons and chefs gave up their own time serving 1000 meals to underprivileged township children at the Global youth Focus last year.

The initiative was pioneered by Kyoshi Sonny Pillay and his students, who taught basic karate principles to children in neighbouring areas.

Michielin has stood up to the challenge once again this year and sponsored the medals for the KSA Elite International tournament that was held in KZN. Over 400 athletes were involved.

“It is rare to find such a philanthropist – Brett Michelin has provided unconditional support to athletes of a sport that remains self-funded. Without him, many of our endeavors would not have been possible. Mozambik restaurant is a fine example of a business getting involved in its community and the development of children in sport,” said Karate South Africa CEO Carlos Vilela.
