Weekend crime report
Arson strikes at three sugar cane farms in Upper Tongaat on Friday and other crimes.

The following crimes were attended to by Umhlali SAPS over the weekend:
* There were two house break-ins early on Sunday morning. One at Zen Drive and the other in Jacqueline Drive. In both instances the owners only noticed items were stolen later that morning.
* A grocery store was burgled in the early hours of Sunday morning in Khalafukwe, Etete and a number of goods were stolen.
* A house was broken into a Vallen Lodge early on Saturday morning. The resident discovered items missing when he woke up.
* On Saturday evening a man was stabbed with a screw driver in Shakashead. The attacker had knocked on the door and tried to force it open when the resident answered. Another man was assaulted in Etete by four men while a woman was assaulted by a man who forced her to his home. A neighbour came to her rescue after hearing her screams.
* Police opened a case of reckless and negligent driving after a driver was found under the influence of alcohol after an accident on the R102 near Compensation on Saturday.
* On Friday night a man was assaulted by a group of men in Shayamoya. One of the men threatened him with a knife before he was beaten and robbed by the group.
* A burglar stole a TV and cash from a house on Jasmine Drive in Shakashead while the resident was away on Friday.
* Two men assaulted a worker while he was collecting iron at a construction site in Umhlali around midday on Friday.
* A farmer opened a case of malicious damage to property after three sugar cane farms were set alight at Avalon Farm in Upper Tongaat on Friday.
Police arrested seven people for possession of marijuana, five for drinking in public, four for selling liquor without a license and two people were arrested for road traffic violations.
