Ilembe cricketer scoops top award
Steven Jacobs honoured at the KZN Cricket Union Awards last week.
Local cricketer Steven Jacobs was honoured at the KZN Cricket Union Awards last Friday.
Jacobs, of Manor Cricket Club, won the KZNCU challenge league Stream two 'batsman of the season' award, at a banquet at the Kingsmead presidential suite.
Jacobs scored a massive 370 runs in the season and averaged over 25.
He is also the wicket keeper for Manor Cricket Club and Ilembe Cricket Union.
He dedicated the award to his long time coach and mentor Desigan Pillay.
“I would like to follow in the footsteps of (Dolphins) player Morné van Wyk and keep wicket for the Dolphins,” said Jacobs.
A special award was given in honour of the late Malingum Govender for his contribution to umpiring and leading the umpires board for a number of years. His daughter collected his award.
