One dead, three injured in morning accidents

Tinley Manor bend claims another life.

The rain wreaked havoc on the N2 this morning, with three accidents reported in two hours.

An elderly man died and his son was critically injured on the N2 southbound, on the now notorious Tinley Manor bend.

It is unclear what caused the head-on collision.

IPSS Medical Rescue’s Paul Herbst confirmed the driver of the other vehicle involved was also taken to hospital.

The N2 southbound is temporarily closed in the area, with traffic being diverted through the Tinley Manor offramp.

This is the third accident on the dangerous stretch of road since February.

On May 24 a mother, her three-year-old son and their pregnant caregiver were killed, while six were injured in a serious accident that closed the freeway for two hours on June 12.

Two people were also critically injured in a roll-over accident earlier this year.

This morning there was a slight fender bender on the N2 just past the Umvoti Toll, with only one vehicle involved and no injuries reported.

A third accident was reported in Zinkwazi involving two vehicles.

“Two patients were taken to hospital. Their injuries are not serious,” said Herbst.
