Tonight I gotta cut loose…footloose!
Former Umhlali Preparatory student is making waves on the Durban theatre scene.
A former Umhlali Preparatory School is making waves in the Durban theatre scene.
Ballito resident Carla Johnson, now in grade 11 at St Mary’s DSG, has been receiving glowing reviews for her role in the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre’s latest production – Footloose.
Footloose is being staged in partnership with the Rainbow Young Performers’ Project and provincial arts and culture department.
The feisty Carla is brilliant in the role of Ariel Moore, the rebellious minister’s daughter and object of lead character Ren McCormack’s affections.
She has always been in love with the stage, cutting her teeth in junior school with key roles in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Seussical the Musical.
Continuing with drama in high school and participating in all high school productions as well as the Legally Blonde musical production at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre in 2012, Carla achieved her highest accolade earlier this year when she took part in the South African Championships of Performing Arts, representing KwaZulu-Natal.
She was awarded both a gold medal and silver medal for her vocal performances and was selected as part of the South African Team to perform at the Los Angeles Championships later this year in America.
Catch Carla in Footloose, running until July 14.
Tickets are available through Computicket.
