Weekend crime report

A surfer's car was stolen on Friday at Salt Rock Beach.

The following incidents were attended to by Umhlali SAPS over the weekend:


* Five people were arrested after allegedly stealing a backpack from a pedestrian in Chakas Rock early on Sunday morning.
* A man was taken to Stanger Hospital on Sunday evening after being assaulted with a hammer near Knock Out store in Velani township.
* A house was broken into at the Zen Drive in Ballito on Saturday night. The resident woke up to find several items missing.
* One man was arrested after breaking into a house and stealing items worth R30 000 at Colwyn Drive in Sheffield late on Saturday night. Another suspect is still missing.
* A window was smashed and groceries and money were stolen from a house at Dr Lekkas farm in Upper Tongaat.
* There was a robbery in Ashley Road, Ballito on Saturday night after a resident left a door unlocked. 
* Residents were held up at knife point at Edward Place on Saturday afternoon. Cash and cellphones were stolen.
* On Saturday night a Hilux bakkie and a cell phone were stolen from a house at on Compensation Beach Road, Ballito. 
* A hit and run was reported on Esenembe road on Saturday afternoon. A pedestrian was taken to hospital.
* A Velani township resident discovered that someone had damaged a water pipe outside their house on Friday morning.
* In Shakaskraal a women was conned and a man stole her purse on Friday.
* On Friday a car and laptop was stolen at Jacqueline Drive, Ballito while the owner was out.
* A surfer’s car was stolen on Friday at Salt Rock Beach.


Umhlali SAPS arrested two people for drinking in public, five for possession of marijuana, three for road traffic violations and one person for disturbing the peace.
