Celebrating the high-flyers at Umfolozi college
"Always do things for your own fulfillment and not to be praised by people."
Umfolozi FET Chief Albert Luthuli campus awarded its top students and lecturers on Wednesday, June 25.
The best performing students were Phathesakhe Gumede and Nomalungelo Ntuli with four awards each and Cabangokuhle Nkosi who received five awards in the lecturers’ category.
Campus manager Sanjith Hooblal congratulated both students and lecturers for their sweat and dedication.
He said without them the awards would not have been possible.
“Excellence in academics is the hallmark of any good institution, I am proud of you. The last year saw varied events and happenings that touched us, inspired us and taught us. All year through, my staff continued to put efforts towards quality improvement in every aspect of our work.”
According to Hooblal the campus would see an increase in the level of responsibility and accountability of students and staff.
“Our effort will be to develop intrinsic motivation in our students. We need to train our children to take charge and trust they will be responsible for their success and failure. As adults we need to emulate the same and show them the path, accept responsibility to achieve our goals – we need to lead by example.”
The guest speaker was Manqoba Ngubo, a 24 year-old chartered accountant who recently received a Presidential Award at the Future Leaders Awards.
He encouraged the students to continue sacrificing their sleep and friends in order to always remain a notch above the rest.
“Always do things for your own fulfillment and not to be praised by people. You know yourself and background. Do not expect people to praise or show that they recognise every great thing you do. Persevere; I am boldly standing in front of you because of that. I have faced many trials and tribulations but I am still standing and very optimistic,” he concluded.
